digital kids

Kids are usually squirmy little elastic firecracker things that rarely sit down once they get going. When your body is small and healthy and overflowing with energy, and your mind is full of curiosity and anticipation for the new, then I guess it's perfectly normal. Sometimes I see kids or even babies, barely a month old, on the bus, or on the metro downtown and they are not like this at all. They are more on the frail side, less physical, maybe of asian descent, and when they look at you, you feel their mind. It's quite unsettling at first because you immediately get the impression that this little midget studying you from the comfort of their Quinny stroller might have more mental capacity than you. Little black eyes moving a mile a minute and their bodies perfectly still. As you notice the little squirt, in her onion head hat, and pacifier in mouth, she also notices you. She doesn't flinch, she just confidently stares at you down analyzing you taking it all in. These kids are different, they don't move in quick un-calculated impulses, they turn their attention to things gracefully like an adult, or even someone more civilized, studying everything. They have an attention span, and that is a magnificent thing in our day and age of electronic media distractions.
