Timothy Leary and cyberdisease
I once read a book by an over the hill Timothy Leary praising the information age and the new generation of cybernuts for their ability to process millions of realities per minute. At the time I thought it was somewhat commendable for Leary to embrace modernity the way he habitually tries to welcome the unknown but now I realize how completely ridiculous it is for an acid wave guru hippy like him to praise the virtual world. I think his final days were a little obscured by clouds of schizophrenia. I've spoken to numerous cyerfreaks and heavy computer users of all sorts; web surfers, administrators, developers, various pencil pushers, and the likes who spend wayyy too much time infront of the screen taking in radiating waves of synthetic light and they share this opinion concerning its effects mentally. It strains your eyes, and reduces your attention span because every train of thought is interupted by another window of thought so frequently. There's no room for tangents of clarity. Infact a common side effect and trigger response to frequent computer use is brain freeze where your mind just periodically resets, and your forget what you were doing completely, like your mind stalls and resorts to some protection mode measure to prevent further damage. When this happens its time to recharge spiritually, physically, and metaphysically. Go outside and leave the technology behind for as long as possible to allow your psyche to heal. If it means changing your line of work, then so be it. Nothing is more important then your state of mind.. you dont want to fall into the grip of mental disease. Trust me it can get rough and you don't want to go there, no matter how much the paycheque.
